During the 1991 Yajna in Piercy, Gurudev had several episodes of congestive heart failure, and a devotee was called to treat his condition. He needed intravenous injection of Lasix immediately. She was nervous, sweating, and emotional.
How could she puncture her revered Guru with a needle? Gurudev looked at her, despite breathing heavily with an oxygen mask on, and extended his arm. He uttered, “Umm, do it!” Half an hour after she had successfully injected him, he got up and went to the next class. He roared like a lion in his usual style and continued all his classes.
After class, while the devotee was still shivering from the incident, he said, “Play your role. When you need to be a doctor, be a doctor; when you need to be a wife, be a wife. The world is a stage; play your role to perfection and the Lord will free you.”
