Every moment spent with Gurudev was always inspiring and enlightening. Once, a group of students got into an argument. Did Shri Rama really exist? Was Shri Krishna really born on earth? They came to Gurudev with their questions.
In turn, Gurudev asked them, “You tell me. What do YOU think about Shri Rama and Shri Krishna? “Shri Krishna gave us the wisdom of the Bhagavad Geeta”, volunteered one boy. “Shri Rama taught us to be poised in all circumstances”, said a girl.
“Right”, said Gurudev and rubbed his hands in glee. “You’re bang on! Shri Krishna gave us the Bhagavad Geeta. It is a handbook for living. Shri Rama — we only have to look at how he handled each adverse situation in life. It wasn’t easy. He lived the life of the Ideal.
“Now look here. What does it matter whether they were really born or not? Don’t waste your time and energy trying to establish the authenticity of their existence. Leave that to the historians. YOU follow their teachings — THAT is what will benefit you!”
