QnA With Gurudev – Why should I serve?

Very often the youth asks the question, “Why should I serve? What has the society done for me except to pull me down?” Never think that you can change the world. You cannot. Yet, you must try to serve the world and those dependent on you, including elders and children, as best as you can. This is the way for your inner growth and mental satisfaction.

A spiritual aspirant is not to be dumb and deaf; he must be fully aware of the needs and sorrows of the world of men around him and must seek to find within himself a kindness and tolerance enough, to make his heart weep for the sorrow of others.

The spirit of sacrifice and capacity to find oneself enough sympathy, to serve one’s own near and dear relations but also the whole universe, thus putting their welfare first, even before one’s own redemption, is one of the most important qualifications unavoidable in a true seeker.
