Lure the mind with promises; kindle its curiosity –
Sometimes a mother will offer her child something tangible to win his attention away from a particular field of indulgence. Upon finding the child ransacking her drawers, the mother might say, “Come here, baby. I have something for you. I’ve been keeping it for you for several days.
If you come here, I’ll show it to you.” Upon hearing this, the child readily leaves his mischief and runs in curiosity to his mother. Similarly, when the mind is wandering in its usual fields of agitation, you can cajole it back by repeating to yourself the blissful experience that the great Masters have acquired through meditation.
The curiosity of the mind will be kindled, and, for its own satisfaction, it will for the time being at least come back to apply itself to meditation.
