Lord Ganesha once partook more of the loving offerings made by his devotees. On the way to his abode on his mouse, he stumbled and fell down. The Moon, who had been watching, broke into laughter on seeing this sight. Ganesha was enraged and cursed the Moon – since he was full of pride, he wouldn’t be visible at all.
Repentant, the Moon sought forgiveness, which the large-hearted Lord granted him, on the condition that from that day onward the Moon wouldn’t be visible all the time but would disappear and re-appear over 15 days. Also, one who viewed the Moon on Ganesh Chaturthi, would undergo suffering.
Through this tale, Lord Ganesha exhibits the virtue of forgiveness and tells us how important it is to stay grounded about ourselves, respect all and not put anyone down. For, the same spark of Divinity resides in everyone.
