Legend has it that when Sage Vyasa requested Lord Ganesha to write the Mahabharata while he narrated the verses, Ganesha had a condition: Vyasa would narrate the verses without a pause and Ganesha would take no breaks while writing. Vyasa had his own condition: Ganesha would write only after understanding the layers of meaning behind the verses.
Thus in this healthy competition with Vyasa composing a difficult verse when he needed a break and Ganesha contemplating over the meaning and writing, the great Mahabharata was written. Ganesha’s pen broke in the middle but he was not the one to give up. He broke one of his tusks and continued writing the epic.
Despite the difficult conditions around which the epic was penned, even if he had to sacrifice his tusk to write, Ganesha never stopped until he reached the goal. If we could learn this, we would be much closer to success than ever!
