Being humanitarian is to be involved in improving other people’s lives and reducing their suffering. It means to be compassionate and humane. This was one characteristic of Gurudev.
Once, when he was travelling in America, an old lady was seated next to him on the plane. She seemed quite nervous because there was no one coming to receive her when she landed at Phoenix.
Gurudev too got off the plane at Phoenix because he had to board a connecting flight to San Francisco. When they got off the plane he went with the old woman in a taxi and dropped her off at her relative’s place. Sure enough he missed his flight to San Francisco and had to wait several hours for the next connection.
