Anecdotes- Painful Situations
You are seriously ill in the hospital and your friend comes to cheer you up. You starts complaining, “Please my friend take me away from this hospital. I am not allowed to walk to the attached bathroom! They don’t allow me to turn, all suffering here.”
The doctor may have prescribed a 100 discomforts for you, he has done it all for your own good.
Next you start saying, “I am given only Barley water and the men on right and left sides get three meals a day! I don’t get anything, I am starving!”
The doctor out of his infinite kindness has prescribed that you drink only Barley water. Because what you are suffering from is different from others. THINK! You have gone there with chronic dysentery. The two other men have broken legs. That’s why their leg is tied up to the ceiling. All other parts are fine, so three meals a day.
Therefore the other man said you take the soup when it comes today, he will take the water. After the water he slept very well, no heaviness.
The soup fellow, in the night curtains come around you because you are dying.
The doctors and nurses are running around confused, “Yesterday only this fellow was improving. What has happened in these 4 hours? He is sinking, what do we do?” They check up all the books and charts, but no explanations.
And the other fellow comes up, “Doctor, I have him soup.”
“Arey!” everyone exclaims.
That one ounce of soup may make you stay in the hospital for one more month. Similarly, to exhaust our vasanas, we are meeting situations. Each one of you are different, just as each patient in the hospital has different problems.
Your condition compels the doctor to prescribe certain discomforts for your own benefits. Similarly, the Infinite Lord is compelled to give you small doses of sorrows, to exhaust your own vasanas.
Those who understand this mechanism, don’t get drowned in them. He rises above it with faith in himself and the all-loving Lord and lives through the joys and sorrows.
