Once Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati offered a special fruit of knowledge to Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesha on a condition : the one who would circumnavigate the world thrice and finish first would be blessed with it.
Kartikeya circled the earth thrice on his peacock. But Ganesha with his heart full of devotion and humility had circumumbaulated Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati who were to him the entire universe. Thus, he won the fruit.
Ganesha shows us how beautiful performing one’s duties to one’s parents can be and how rewarding life is for a man ever established in humble devotion.
