Back in the 1960s, a devotee and his wife who were devotees of Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda, were trying to sell some land they owned because they were passing through a very difficult time financially.
Although they badly needed the potential income from the sale, all offers came in very low and were unacceptable.
The devotee’s mother, who was very devoted to Gurudev, offered some of the land as a donation to Chinmaya Mission.
When Gurudev came to view the land, they asked him, “Swamiji, how much land do you need?” Gurudev answered by walking the length and breadth of the required piece of land with his long and stately strides.
Soon thereafter, someone offered a very good price for the entire parcel. The devotee wrote to Gurudev: “What shall we do?” He answered: “Go ahead and sell the land. Give a donation to the Mission equivalent to the portion of land we had marked off as your donation.”
The devotee and his family have no doubts that Swamiji’s blessings made the sale of the land possible, thus saving their family from grave hardship.
Stories of miracles and blessings continue to flow from devotees’ mouths and pens. Some stories are told, some still kept secretly sequestered in people’s hearts.
And yet the greatest miracle may be how Swamiji transformed the seeming insignificance of life’s events into moments of splendour and wisdom and miraculous being.
“See the Lord playing through everyone and everything,” he repeated in many ways. “That is the true miracle of life.”
