An Architectural Poetry – Deenabandhu Devasthanam
.
Carved out of a single piece of black granite, established by Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda in 1978, Lord Krishna in the form of Kaliya Mardana presided over the awe-inspiring Deenabandhu temple in Indira Nagar, Bangalore. .
Adjacent to the Chinmaya Mission Hospital, because the patients and the hospital staff invoke the deity’s healing powers, the temple is also called the “Temple of the Healer.”
.
Lord Krishna, as Kaliya Mardana is seen dancing on the seven-hooded serpent which represent the negative tendencies that ensnare a person. .
As Gurudev put it, “Krishna is dancing on the serpent (the ego), which spits forth the poison (vasanas), into our life stream. Let us revere and worship Him whose grace blessed us all, who is the Deenabandhu.”
.
The sculpture is a blend of Northern and Southern Indian architecture. .
At the main entrance to the temple is the ornamental pillar of flame, reminding those who enter to drop their egos into the fire and make themselves fit to receive the Lord’s blessings.
.
Murals depicting the Gitopadesam and the 10 avataras of Lord Vishnu adorn the front facade.
.
If you are in and around Bangalore, visit this beautiful temple and let Lord Deenabandhu heal your pains, bestowing joy for eternity! 🙂
